About Us

Locally-owned, community-based Longfellow Montessori school.

The Little Sparks community grew out of a parent-led movement for a Montessori preschool in the Longfellow neighborhood. We are a one-room Montessori school serving children ages 33 months - 5 years old located inside Christ Church Lutheran. We love our neighbors down the hall at Christ Church but are not affiliated with the church itself. We’re glad to be here!

Little Sparks is rooted in the Montessori method, which was founded by Italian pedagogue and doctor Maria Montessori in 1907. Dr. Montessori called her first school a Children’s House, or Casa dei Bambini, because she saw the need for young children to learn in a place that felt familiar and where they could have ownership over their space. Montessori schools all over the world continue to operate Children’s Houses, or Casas, following Dr. Montessori’s vision. The Montessori method is an integral piece of the experience each child gains at Little Sparks.

Little Sparks currently has one Children’s House open, with an enrollment cap of 20 students. We are owned and operated by Shauna Kidimu and co-directed by Rafael Acevedo. When the time is right, we look forward to expanding our school.
